Three bogie railcars were built by the VFIL works in Lumbres (CGL company) in 1936, the first one (M41) having been put into service on the Flanders network in the Nord department. After closure in late December 1954, M41 was bought and transferred to the Somme Bay where it was returned to service in 1957. The other two railcars (M42, M43), assigned at first to the Persan-Beaumont-Hermes line (Oise) were moved in turn to the Somme Bay when the former line closed in late December 1958. They were put back into service in 1959 after their original Berliet 115hp engine was replaced by a 6-cylinder Willème 150hp engine. On 31st December 1972, railcar M42 worked the very last commercial train on the Somme network. The CFBS took over all 3 railcars from 1973, but being worn out, they broke down one after the other at a time when the preservation society didn’t have the means to keep them in working order. Stored out of doors, vandalized, corroded, they gradually became ruins. However, some restoration work was undertaken in the 1990s on M42. The chassis, bogies and transmission were completely renovated. A study was under taken for rebuilding the bodywork, but thus will require significant expenditure. This railcar is in the process of being listed as a technical heritage item.
